How do you choose the right SOLO foam sprayer? Choose the appropriate size (2/4/9 L) and the right seal (A for pH 1–7, B/FB for pH 7–14), then set the foam wetness exactly for your pre-wash job using VARIOfoam.

In practice, varioFOAM is less of a "feature" and more of a lever for process reliability: You regulate the foam wetness to suit the task. Dry, stable foam adheres longer and runs off less quickly – ideal if you want maximum contact time on vertical surfaces or if the dirt film is tougher. Moister, gel-like foam, on the other hand, can be useful if you need more wetting, want to work faster, or if you see that foam that is too dry is causing "crumble trails" and not lying cleanly and evenly. The important thing is: You don't have to constantly fiddle with the mixture, but rather change the foam characteristics on the device – and that is during application. Precisely this "on-the-fly" adjustment is explicitly described by SOLO via an adjustment dial that allows the moisture content to be adjusted even while working.

For car care workflows, this means you can make the pre-wash significantly more reproducible. Example: On warm, dark paintwork in summer, you might prefer slightly more stable foam to reduce quick run-off. In winter – when everything reacts more slowly and you often work in stages – a minimally moister foam can improve even wetting without getting "too wet". And because we are talking about hand foam sprayers here (not a foam lance on a pressure washer), dosage control is often even more crucial: Your foam must sit properly because you are consciously using it as a preliminary step for low-contact dirt removal – and not as "show snow".

FKM EPDM seals and pH ranges in car care

For detailers, FKM and EPDM are not nerdy abbreviations, but the answer to a very real question: "Why does my sprayer last forever – or why is it suddenly failing after a few weeks?" SOLO clearly categorizes the CLEANLine devices by sealing material and thus by typical chemical profiles. FKM seals are intended for acidic cleaners in the low pH range (1–7); EPDM seals for neutral to alkaline media (7–14). You will find exactly this logic reflected directly in our model designations: In this category, the 304 is available as FA (pH 1–7) and FB (pH 7–14), the 309 as FA/FB (pH 1–7 or 7–14), and the 333 as FA (pH 1–7).

What does this mean in practice? If you work with alkaline pre-wash, snow foam pre-wash, or a powerful APC foam, you want the EPDM variant (B/FB). If, on the other hand, you use an acidic, foamable product (e.g., for special cleaning tasks), then the FKM variant (A/FA) is the clean choice. The A/B designation is not coincidental at SOLO, but communicated precisely in this way: "B" stands for use with bases/alcohols in the pH 7–14 range, "A" for the corresponding acidic application areas – plus the typical material properties of the seals. Pro-tip from everyday life: Regardless of whether A or B – rinse the container with clear water after the job. Not as a moral sermon, but as a very simple investment in longevity: Residues that dry up change foaming and valve behavior faster than you can say "Why is this thing dripping?".

304 FA/FB is the sweet spot if you want to remain maximally flexible: 2 liters, handy, quickly refilled – and with the FA/FB duo, you cover exactly the chemical separation most relevant in detailing (acidic vs. alkaline).
