What is Dr. Wack A1? The car-care line from Dr. O.K. Wack Chemie in Ingolstadt that pulls washing, polishing, sealing and interior care under one brand. Fast maintenance care by hand, no machine, Made in Germany since 1975.
Dr. Wack A1 is the all-rounder car-care line from Dr. O.K. Wack Chemie GmbH in Ingolstadt, and it covers the full care cycle, from the wash through polishing to sealing and interior care. At its core is fast maintenance care by hand: spray waxes, quick detailers and polish-wax combos that work in minutes instead of hours. A1 is built for you if you want to look after your car regularly, without a machine polisher and without a mess of kit from five different makers.
Day-to-day from Detailing1: What we see a lot: A1 Spray Wax or the spray sealant gets sprayed onto paint that is still warm or sitting in the sun. The product flashes off and leaves streaks that only come out with another pass. Always work the paint in the shade and hand-warm, in 2 to 3 sections per side of the car. Lay the spray wax onto a panel that is still slightly damp, then pull it off in one direction with a dry microfibre cloth. That keeps the finish streak-free, and you only need about 10 minutes per pass.
Dr. Wack A1 is positioned as an all-rounder, not a specialist. The line covers four care areas: washing, paint refinement, sealing and interior.
That is the thinking behind A1. Where a lot of detailing brands go deep on one single discipline, Dr. Wack treats car care as one connected routine. The wash with the foam shampoo is followed by polishing when needed, then preservation with Spray Wax or spray sealant, and alongside it the interior care with the ALL in ONE cleaner. Every product is matched to the next, so no chemical conflicts crop up.
For you that means less decision stress. You do not have to research a different maker for every step, you stay inside one logic. It also lowers the risk of mistakes: an A1 spray wax gets on fine with an A1 polish, because both are built around the same application routine. Anyone who has ever sprayed an acidic wheel cleaner onto a fresh coat of wax by accident knows how much that match matters.
At Detailing1 we carry the A1 line in full. It runs from simple consumables like the applicator sponge right up to the ULTIMA Show & Shine polish. That breadth is what sets A1 apart from pure niche products: you get a complete system, not just a single highlight.
The A1 name is a statement of intent: keep a whole car looked after within a single line. Dr. Wack built the brand early on as a consumer product that works just as well on the shelf as it does in the hands of an experienced detailer. That double reach is exactly why the line carries both beginner sponges and a pricey show polish, it grows with what you are after, without you having to switch brands.
The heart of A1 is the Speed series, built around maintenance care in a short window of time.
The A1 Speed Shampoo is your way into the care cycle. It is a concentrate that gets diluted hard, so one bottle covers a lot of washes. Next comes the A1 Speed Polish, a hand polish that freshens up light weathering and dull spots with no machine polisher needed. It is the quick answer to paint that has gone flat, not a cutting system for deep scratches.
For preservation there is the A1 HIGH END Spray Wax, which you spray on after the wash and wipe off to give the paint gloss and water beading. If you want a longer-lasting layer of protection, reach for the A1 ALL in ONE Care & Protect Sprühversiegelung. Both work on the same principle: spray on, spread, wipe off, done in a few minutes per side of the car.
Alongside these, the A1 range has specialist products that round the all-rounder off. The Speed Wax Plus 3, the HIGH END Speed Detailer for in-between care and the Polish & Wax combo polish extend the gloss side. For stubborn cases A1 carries the fallout remover gel, the ALL in ONE interior and glass cleaner spray, plus leather care and leather cleaner. So nearly every care job stays solvable within the brand.
It is worth noting how A1 tiers its gloss care. The HIGH END Speed Detailer is the lightest step and works as a between-washes refresher that pulls dust and fingerprints in 5 minutes and reactivates the wax film that is already there. A step up sits the Spray Wax with a real preservation effect, and at the top the ULTIMA Show & Shine polish, meant for the big entrance before a meet. That tiering lets you match the effort to the occasion, instead of running the full programme every time.
A1 is not a random mix, it is a tiered workflow from the base clean to the final gloss.
The logical order starts with the wash. The Power Foam Shampoo or the Speed Shampoo lifts road film and loose dirt. Only on clean, dry paint does the polish follow, because any polish will drag grinding marks across dirt particles. The Speed Polish or the stronger ULTIMA Show & Shine brings the gloss back and preps the surface for the seal.
The third step is preservation. Here it comes down to what you are after: the Spray Wax gives fast gloss for 4 to 8 weeks, the Care & Protect spray sealant tends to hold longer and also shields against the elements. What matters is the order, not the amount. More product does not buy better protection, just more streaks and higher use.
Interior care runs alongside as its own strand. The ALL in ONE interior and glass cleaner covers dash, plastics and glass, the plastic deep conditioner freshens faded matte surfaces, the leather care protects seats and steering wheel. Splitting the exterior and interior strands makes sense, because the two areas call for different materials and chemistry. Put together, you get a complete care cycle that you work through in around 60 to 90 minutes on an average car.
The system thinking shows up in the consumables too. A1 has its own applicator and polishing sponges plus the DAS TUCH premium microfibre cloth, all matched to the products. The right sponge spreads polish more evenly than any old cloth, and a deep-pile microfibre pulls spray wax off more streak-free than a cotton rag. It sounds like a detail, but day-to-day it makes a noticeable difference to the result. Skimp on the kit and you will see it later in micro-scratches and streaks that no product on earth will make up for.
In practice, A1 lives on the right order and the discipline of working in the shade.
For the wash, the two-bucket method is the standard, so you do not smear dirt across the paint. You dilute the foam shampoo hard, a dash is enough for a 10-litre bucket. Then rinse thoroughly and dry with a microfibre or with compressed air, so no water spots are left before polish or wax follow.
For the hand polish it is about even, moderate pressure. You lay the Speed Polish on with the A1 polishing sponge in overlapping passes, let it flash off briefly, then buff it out with a clean, dry cloth. Always work panel by panel, about a quarter of the bonnet at a time, otherwise the polish dries hard in the awkward spots. Plan on 10 to 15 minutes per side of the car.
The seal is the quickest step. Put the Spray Wax or spray sealant on in a fine mist, spread it with one cloth, then pull it off to a shine with a second dry cloth. Inside, spray the ALL in ONE cleaner onto the cloth, not straight onto the display or the vents, to avoid overrun. The plastic deep conditioner goes on thin and can be set matte or satin depending on the effect you want. These small routines decide the result more than the choice between two similar products.
A common mistake is the dosing. With spray wax and spray sealant a lot of people tend to put on too much, because more intuitively sounds like more protection. In fact a thin layer spreads more evenly and wipes off more easily, while an excess smears and burns through product. A 500-millilitre bottle stretches to far more applications that way than with over-generous spraying. Hold the trigger about 20 to 30 centimetres off the surface and work with two to three squeezes per section. With a bit of routine it turns into a flowing sequence where you work through a whole side of the car without thinking.
A1 plays in the solid midfield of car care, with a clear strength in quick care, but it has deliberate limits.
Against pure show-car brands, A1 is positioned more pragmatically. The line does not promise mirror-smooth concours prep, it promises reliable maintenance care for cars that get driven every day. That is an honest read: if you want the last percent of deep gloss out of black paint, you are better off with a multi-stage cutting and coating system. A1 aims at the broad everyday, not the competition.
The clear limit is paint correction. A1 offers hand polishes, but no system for uncompromising heavy correction across several cutting stages, and no multi-year ceramic coatings. If you want to remove deep swirls, holograms or etching, you need a machine polisher and graded cutting polishes, which A1 does not have in its range. Here it makes sense to add a specialist brand. That openness is part of the predictability that defines Dr. Wack.
The strength, in turn, is the breadth from one source. Within the Dr. Wack universe, A1 finishes the car off, while the sister lines take on other surfaces. If you want to tackle the wheel or the paint at a higher level, you will find it in the high-end line P21S with its acid-free wheel cleaner. For the motorbike there is the S100 line, and for clean washer fluid the screen concentrate CW1:100. That division of labour keeps the brand easy to plan around.
Dr. Wack A1 fits you if you want to care for your car regularly and without fuss, without investing in machines and specialist chemistry.
If you wash your car every 2 to 4 weeks and then want to seal it in 15 minutes, the Speed series is built for exactly that. Spray Wax and spray sealant deliver visible gloss and water beading in a short time. The typical A1 user is the pragmatic carer, for whom a well-kept, protected finish matters more than that very last bit of deep gloss.
As a way into structured car care, A1 is a good call too. You get to know the full care cycle without having to work through five makers' philosophies. The stable formula since 1975 means no surprises when you buy a bottle again. And for families with several everyday cars, the concentrate shampoo is economical enough to stretch across many washes.
A1 is less of a fit for ambitious detailers with concours aims, or for jobs that call for real heavy correction. If you want a coating with a multi-year lifespan or a machine paint refinement, you are better off pairing A1 with a specialist brand and then using A1 for the ongoing maintenance care. For exactly that upkeep, week after week, Made in Germany from Ingolstadt, the line is one of the most predictable options in the range.
