What is GYEON Q² FabricCoat? GYEON Q² FabricCoat is a SiO₂-based fabric sealant for cloth, Alcantara and convertible-top surfaces that permanently impregnates the fibres, makes liquids bead off and keeps dirt and stains sitting on the surface – for easy cleaning and long-lasting protection.

Cloth seats, Alcantara trim and convertible tops are the most demanding surfaces in a car – they stain easily, soak up smells and are a pain to clean. GYEON Q² FabricCoat changes how textile surfaces behave from the ground up: the ceramic formula works its way into the fibres and coats them with a SiO₂ layer at a microscopic level. What you get is an impregnated surface where liquids bead, dirt doesn’t soak in and stains dab straight off.

• Fibre-level protection – not a surface coating. Q² FabricCoat works its way into the textile fibres instead of just sitting on top of them. That means the protection stays put even when the surface takes mechanical wear – it lasts longer than a plain spray-on impregnation.
• Liquids bead off – stains stay on the surface. Coffee, water, soft drinks – on sealed fabric they sit as droplets on top and dab straight off before they can soak in. For a family car, one with kids or pets, that’s a real day-to-day win.
• Works on cloth, Alcantara and convertible tops. GYEON Q² FabricCoat is built for the most common textiles in a car – from standard cloth through premium Alcantara to the fabric soft top. The formula is gentle on all of them and leaves no visible residue.

Detailing1’s tip from the shop: Always lay GYEON Q² FabricCoat down on fully clean, dry fabric. Pull any stains or grime out first with the GYEON Q²M FabricCleaner and let it dry completely. Then spray FabricCoat on evenly from about 20–30 cm, spread it out with a cloth and let it cure fully (24 hours). Don’t rub it in – the product works its way in on its own.

How SiO₂ impregnates textiles: the tech behind Q² FabricCoat

Conventional fabric-proofing sprays run on fluorocarbon compounds (PTFE/DWR) that form a hydrophobic layer on the fibres. Those coatings are temporary, wash out fast with regular cleaning and are being restricted more and more over environmental concerns. GYEON Q² FabricCoat goes with SiO₂ chemistry: silicon-dioxide particles that bond chemically to the textile fibres and change their surface tension for good. The result is a tougher impregnation that outlasts several cleaning cycles without any dodgy fluorine compounds. The fibres still breathe, and the look and feel of the fabric stay exactly the same.

Applying it to car seats, Alcantara and convertible tops

Before you apply GYEON Q² FabricCoat the surface has to be completely clean and dry. On car seats: clean first with the Q²M FabricCleaner, let it dry, then spray FabricCoat evenly over the seat surfaces and let it soak in. On Alcantara: go especially sparingly and don’t rub it in, since Alcantara doesn’t take kindly to mechanical friction. On convertible tops: spray in dry weather, spread it evenly with a soft brush and let it cure fully – ideally overnight. Once cured, the fabric is impregnated and you can test it straight away with water: it beads up into balls and rolls off the surface.

Where it pays off: when Q² FabricCoat earns its keep

GYEON Q² FabricCoat really earns its keep on cars that get used hard: family cars with kids (spills and stains), cars with pets (dirt and fur), convertibles with fabric tops (rain and mould protection) and cars with premium Alcantara trim (which stains can ruin for good). Fabric boat seats or marine textiles can be protected with FabricCoat too. For leather surfaces, on the other hand, the GYEON Q² LeatherShield EVO is the right call – it’s built specifically for leather and synthetic leather.

FabricCoat vs. classic fabric-proofing spray: what makes the difference

Cheap fabric-proofing sprays from the DIY store or outdoor shop are made for outdoor textiles (jackets, tents) – not for the finer weave of car upholstery or Alcantara. They can stiffen fabric, leave residue or throw up stains on Alcantara. GYEON Q² FabricCoat was developed for car textiles: finer particle size, a gentle formula and dialled in for the materials that actually go into a car.
